Privacy and updates

What leaves your Mac (one version check), and how updates work.

What stays on your Mac

Everything DevSweep finds: file names, paths, sizes, your projects. The scan runs locally and nothing about it is sent anywhere. There’s no account and no analytics.

The one request

When DevSweep opens, it downloads a small file, https://devsweep.ibrahimfathi.dev/download/latest.json, which holds the newest version number and a link to the download page. The request carries the app’s version in its user agent and nothing else.

Turn it off in Settings. You can still check by hand from DevSweep → Check for Updates….

How an update works

If a newer version is out, a banner at the top of the window shows its number and a Download button. That opens the download page in your browser; DevSweep doesn’t download or install anything by itself.

To update, download the new .dmg and drag DevSweep into Applications, replacing the old one. Your settings stay. You may need to allow it in Privacy & Security again, and re-grant Full Disk Access if you use it.
