Full Disk Access

Why DevSweep works without it, what it can't see then, and how to grant it.

DevSweep doesn’t need Full Disk Access. macOS lets it read your developer folders, caches and projects without it.

What you miss without it

A few folders under ~/Library are protected by macOS. DevSweep can’t measure those, and lists each one under not scanned in the status bar, so you know the totals are slightly low.

Docker Desktop’s own data folder is one of them; DevSweep asks Docker for its numbers instead, so that doesn’t matter.

Grant it

  1. In DevSweep, open Settings (⌘,) and click Open Full Disk Access settings. Or open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Full Disk Access.
  2. Turn on DevSweep. If it’s not in the list, click + and choose it from Applications.
  3. Quit and reopen DevSweep, then scan again.

After an update

DevSweep is signed on the machine that builds it, not with a paid Apple certificate. macOS can treat a new version as a different app and drop the permission. If items show as not scanned again after updating, turn DevSweep off and on in the list.
